Arts and Crafts:
Within the city there are several outlets for NZ antiques, local art and memorabilia, while the
Ngatapa Valley
hosts several craft outlets that can be enjoyed in a half or full day along with wineries and gardens. We thoroughly recommend a visit to Toihoukura, the gallery of the Maori Art School at the local Polytech - Open Mon-Fri, our regional Museum and Art Gallery, and our neighbourhood potter Seymour May.

Gardens and Arboreta:
A two-minute walk takes you to the riverside Civic Rose Gardens, a 15 minute stroll across the river to the Botanical Gardens with its sister city features from the USA and Japan, and approximately 1/2 hour drive will take you to one of two lovely "tree-gardens" worth visiting - Hackfalls Aboretum and
Eastwoodhill Arboretum. In addition, there are several private gardens that may be visited with advanced notice.

Trout Fishing:
We can recommend the services of expert fly-fishing guides to take guests on a wilderness fly-fishing expedition to the rivers or lakes surrounding Gisborne. The season runs from 1 October to 30 June with the best times for fishing generally October/November and February to April. Please contact us for further details and rates.
